What A Long Strange Trip!

Long Trip!
July.
That’s the last time I blogged.
Three whole months ago.
Was I trapped under something heavy and couldn’t reach the keyboard?
Was I kidnapped and forced into hard labor?
Perhaps I drifted into a long sleep only to awake in a different time and place?
Actually, all of these are pretty good analogies to what really happened.
I was happily preparing (okay – breathlessly preparing) to present at (what we believe to be) the largest gathering of online high school teachers in the nation: the training provided by my employer for high school staff using our curriculum. Suddenly the phone rang.
It was my boss who informed me that our very large online high school program in Pennsylvania had found themselves without a high school administrator just two short weeks before the first day of school.
That is where I’ve been – coordinating an online high school program of a couple of thousand students and 70+ staff while we searched for the best replacement. Thankfully, that replacement has been hired and is in the process of being trained by me. In just two more weeks, I will return to my “normal” job.
This eddy in the stream brought with it many unexpected repercussions: some good and some, well – not so much.
The best part of this story is that now I have more fodder for the blog and the work I do in online instruction nationally will be very well informed by front line experience. You can look forward to some of the lessons I learned on these pages in the coming weeks.
But for now – it’s good to be back (almost). I am hopeful he Twitterverse is still there and humming. I haven’t even had time to microblog.
