I can tell when you don’t care…
And so can your students, when you’re an online teacher. Let me explain.
In a brick and mortar class, you made eye contact with me while you were addressing the whole class. Every time you glanced at me, I knew you were talking to me – and you knew I was there.
In our online course, however, you just sent me an email that began, “Dear Biology Student…” You have no idea who I am and clearly didn’t care enough to find out my name. I am just part of a mailing list to you.
Okay – maybe you DO care. But don’t forget that it’s the little things that count when you’re communicating online. Like caring enough to at least use mail merge when you send out mass emails.
